How are they made?
We laser-cut the steel to ensure our design is precisely and consistently replicated for each item. Once the laser cutting is complete, we use specialist machinery to apply folds to the sheet steel. We complete the fabrication by hand using only the best, qualified fabricators who take immense pride in their work. Everything is proudly made in the UK, and none of our products are imported from overseas.
Each Heavy Duty Cafe Planter has a double folded return top lip feature. A lot of similar products on the market leave a steel edge, or a single fold. We have opted for a double fold for several reasons:
-
It’s a much higher quality, premium finish (It just looks so much better!)
-
It gives the Trough unbelievable strength and rigidity, and
-
It’s safer for hands when planting.
The corners and connecting sides are fully seam welded and we take time and effort to smooth welds which provides amazing corner and edge detail. Once we’re finished you won’t know where the welds are! As they are handmade by our professional fabricators each Trough is ever so slightly unique adding to the charm of this product.
We fix in a false bottom at 300mm from the top of the planter as standard. This allows you to fill the planter with enough soil to plant most plants or add artificial plants. This is to make the planter as light as possible to help with moveability.
What is it made of?
We either make this product from Mild Steel which is then Electro-Zinc Plated and then Powdercoated with your chosen colour. We can make your Cafe Barrier Planter out of Corten Steel too!

We make our Cafe Barrier with Wheels from structural grade, 2mm thick steel as standard.
How will my order arrive?
We have a trusted network of nationwide pallet and parcel couriers. Cafe Barrier Plant Pots will arrive via a pallet courier. All deliveries are fully tracked.
Can a Cafe Barrier Planter be used indoors as well?
Yes! They are suitable for domestic, commercial, indoor, and outdoor use. The planters come with drainage holes as standard, if using indoors you may want to request that these are removed.
How do I maintain it?
You don’t have to! Honest! Unlike wooden alternatives hardly any maintenance is required at all! All you need to do is fill, plant, and enjoy! You may, however, want to clean the planters from time to time. When cleaning the Powdercoated planters please make sure to not use solvent or bleach-based cleaners. Do not use abrasive cloths or cleaners as this may damage the surface finish.
We advise you to maneuver the planters regularly to ensure the castors don’t compress on one side and to keep the wheel mechanism free and loose. You can also apply oil to the castor if it isn’t operating freely. Debris and moisture can impact its performance.
Other things to note.
For other Powdercoated planters, check out our main page.
Once production is started, we may not be able to accommodate requests or amends.
Whilst powder coating is an extremely durable and weather-resistant surface, it can be damaged by sharp objects. If the powder coating layer is penetrated as far as the raw steel by a deep scratch or scrape, water may get behind the powder coating and cause it to flake away over time.
A deep scuff or a scratch on an otherwise pristine, sleek surface can look unsightly, and unlike ‘wet’ paints, powder coating cannot be repaired in situ.
Care should be taken when handling the planters in installation and during use so as to not damage the protective powdercoated finish. Any defects in the planters and powdercoating should be notified within 24 hours from delivery.
The 4 castors we use offer over 400KG of static load. Our cafe barriers have been tested thoroughly on flat, fair surfaces. The planters haven’t been tested and aren’t suitable for constant use over uneven or undulating surfaces or to be dropped off steps or curbs. In this case, the wheels are likely going to be exposed to more than the static weight loading and may result in irreparable damage.
